A lovely female Eastern Bluebird perches on an old wood branch showing off her winter plumage. She truly is an expression of feminine beauty at its best!
Eastern Bluebirds can have 1-3 broods a year. (Brood is to birds as litter is to cat and dog.) The female Eastern Bluebird works endlessly to build a nest, sit on the eggs, and then find food for the newly hatched baby bluebirds. My experience has been that she takes about a week to build the nest, sits on the eggs for 14 days, the babies fledged (leave the nest) at day 17, and she begins building a nest very soon after that if you clean out the nest box. I cleaned out the nest box and she began building a second nest within a week. Again, she works endlessly, along with the male Eastern Bluebird, to build a second nest while continuing to feed the new fledglings and teach them how to fly. I never heard her complain once or look tired...true expression of endless grace and beauty!
