The spirit of nature shows himself in the form of a human face at the top of the leaf stalk. For me it resembles a man with slanted eyes and a fluffy beard like santa claus. The shape of the leaf is in the form of a heart reminding us of the love/partnership between human and tree~they give us oxygen and we give them carbon dioxide. And yet they do so much more than that~shade, foundation, eco system for numerous other beings...Did you know that an Oak Tree, Quercus, is host to 534 other species, a Maple Tree, Acer, is host to 285 and a Hawthorn, Crateagus, is host to 159, a Bradford pear-not so much, so think about this next time you are planting tree.
